Xiaomi M365 Pro Display Upgrade

Taking clear inspiration from the recently released M365 Pro scooter, this upgraded unit offers greater detail into the live status of the scooter whilst also increasing the flexibility of its power delivery. It is an inexpensive modification well worth performing.

Our Pro dashboard upgrade replaces the standard control board and LED panel for an upgraded unit. The upgraded four-colour LED display features a speed readout, unit indicator (the system supports both metric and imperial), drive mode indicators, a 5-segment battery-capacity readout, headlight and Bluetooth pairing lights in addition to service and overheat warning lights.

Further to this, its control board comes configured with three drive models, ECO, D(rive) and S(port), over the originals Standard/Eco options. The additional spread of speeds these settings offer is ideal for those looking for finer control when balancing range against performance.

The kit includes the upgraded board with wiring loom as well as replacement display cover panels. For installation, you will need a small cross-head screwdriver and a knife or pair of scissors, a hard-plastic spudger or guitar-pick is also useful.

Please note that damage caused by the user during the installation steps may void the warranty of both the scooter and display. 

Before you start, ensure your Xiaomi/Mi Home app (available for Android and iOS) is set to the correct region (UK) and successfully connects to your scooter before turning it off.

Begin by removing the black plastic fascia from the stem, it is stuck on in two pieces that can be gently levered up from the edges with your nails. Should you struggle, use a guitar pick to lift the edges before pulling the pieces up and away, heating the glue with a hair-dryer (on a cool setting) should only be used as a last resort. Remove any remaining glue residue from the outer metal lip. Next unscrew the three cross-head screws securing the control board in place.

Gently lift the control board to reveal a rubber cap secured with a cable tie. Slide (or cut) this cable tie off and slip the cap off to expose the wires and plugs inside. Gently pull the thick grey cable until its black plug emerges from down inside the steering tube. Do not use excessive force to reveal this plug, if the cable will not feed, back out the four hex bolts that hold the handlebars into the steerer most of the way which should free the wire.

Disconnect the standard factory controller board by gently pulling the black connectors apart. Free the board by carefully unplugging the three small white plugs. Below you can see the two boards side by side. Installation of the new board is straight-forward, the coloured wires and differing plug sizes assisting the re-insertion. Note the direction of the black plug with blue insert when plugging it in, as it is keyed. Replace the rubber cover over the small plugs before tucking the cables back into the head of the scooter. Take your time when re-seating the control board to avoid squashing any of the cables below before screwing it into place with the original fixtures.

Carefully tap the power button to test that the display powers on, before gently holding the button down to shutdown the device. Detach the protective plastic film covering the LED display. Take the replacement translucent black plastic dashboard covers from the pack and remove the backing film before sticking them onto the scooter. Once firmly secured, remove the protective film and power the scooter up.

The scooter cannot be ridden until the firmware has been updated and it may beep at you should you try to operate it. Instead, fire up the Xiaomi/Mi Home app on your smartphone and search for the scooter. You will note that it is now identifying itself as a ‘Mi Electric Pro Scooter’ and that when you connect to it, it will prompt you to upgrade the firmware. Allow it to upgrade the firmware and patiently wait whilst the application does so. When completed the app will prompt you to rename or classify your scooter, but these steps can be skipped.

Some users have reported difficulties when upgrading to the Pro firmware, where the upgrade would stall at a low percentage. Should you experience this, we recommend checking the region is set correctly in the application. If this error persists, borrow a smartphone from a friend or family member and try again.

To switch the readout from the default Km/h to Mph, simply select 'imperial system' from the unit settings option in the main menu of the Mi Home app. When turning on, the display will perform a self test, lighting all the elements in the LED panel for a fraction of a second. The translucent nature of the new dashboard cover results in some minor light leakage around the display. Experiencing either of these is perfectly normal.
